Heat pump: Trane XR15 or Tempstar
Wanted to see what folks thought about this. I need to replace my heat pump and I have a few quotes. These two quotes are the same price but equipment is different: Trane XR15 15 seer or Tempstar 13 seer.
I would think the 15 seer for the same price as the 13 would be the way to go on one hand but I am not sure which may have the best service record. Trane used to be good many years ago but I am not sure about now. Both have the 10 year parts warranty.

Well, he did not list the model number for the unit or the thermostat. This is what I have from the quote: INSTALL NEW TRANE XR15 2 TON HEAT PUMP, HIGH EFFICIENT BLOWER AIR HANDLER & 5KW AUX
HEAT STRIPS (current 30 amp breaker/wire limits to 5KW)

I would get full model numbers from each company. Tempstar has a really nice line then their el cheapo outdoor units. Gotta know which they are quoting.

Looks like base/builder level Tempstar equipment. Ask the Trane dealer what the model number of the air handler is that he proposes to install -- doesn't look to be variable speed which in my opinion is the way to go with the XR15.
