My basement walls have R21 down to the floor. We had the house built in 1994 when it passed the R2000 certification test with about 35% to spare.

Don't they offer a seperate meter for all heating aspects on electrical for you guys? Also how much is your $/kwh? To me it seems a little high. Hard saying without being on a seperate meter from the rest of your house. Does your thermostat tell you a run time or anything? I've installed roughly 150 geo systems in central iowa. The best i've seen we did was about $48/month for a 3800 sq/ft house well insulated and around $60/month for a 6,000 sq/ft house well insulated. Of course our temps don't get as cold as you guys. We still dip below 0 for atleast 2 - 3 weeks total out of the year

60 for heating costs alone? I dont seperate geo with other items
My total cost is for everything
Do you happen to know what that 6000 sqft house pays monthly total?
My geo is running on stage 1 most of the time...probably 20 hours a day
Right now its minus 12
In summer time we dont use alot of AC and our total bill is around 200 to 250
On budget billing im spending around 390 a monthy in total that includes everything

I am a little confused, in your first post you said the units were running in second stage and could not keep up, the wife and kids were freezing, now the unit is running in first stage 20 hours. 9 tons of geo should be enough for your size home. Your bills are not outrageous. Your rate is .10kw/hr and costing you about .65 cents/hr for your electric needs during the winter months. This is pretty cheap compared to how cold it has been. I would like to know more about your the loops, like how many, how deep etc.

Sorry i wasnt clear
the system would not reach the level we wwnt on stage 2 alone.
I had aux heat turned off.
So i decided to let it run or we would freeze.
Stage 1 runs all the time when the temp is around -10.
When its -20 and below then it needs aux heat frequently.
So i guess all this is normal.
Hope it makes sense now.
