    CAN PVC PIPE BE USED FOR THE FILL AND VENT PIPING ON A OIL FURNACE SETUP?

    I have always used black pipe only, I know it is code where I am to use black pipe only for oil tank fills.

    For many years in this area PVC was used for vent piping and to my knowledge nothing bad has ever come from that. That being said, what you will find in most cases is that codes REQUIRE black iron piping and if anything would go wrong with the PVC piping, chances are your insurance company would not cover damages due to the code being violated.

    fill and vent piping

    Per NFPA 31 8.2 Acceptable Piping MAterials: "Tank fill and vent piping shall be wrought-iron,steel, or sched 40 Brass pipe" Remember, plastic pipe and glue are oil based so you can end up dissolving them.
