I have a Trane XL13i A/C unit with two-speed fan operation in the outside unit. Does anyone know when one speed is used vs. the other? I believe the control for this operation is in the unit itself and not in the thermostat. I would think it would start out in low speed and shift to high speed if needed although I only have witnessed it working in one speed.

    Thanks

As far as i know ,they operate based on outdoor temperature,ie above 85 F high ,below that low speed. Not at all sure of exact temperature.

Dash, I think you're right. I have the product specs. on the XL13i as well as others. I'll see if I can find the 2 speed fan info.

The fan runs on low when the outdoor temp is below 75* and then it switches to high. Lower speed in lower ambient temps helps with head pressure control.
