Hi Danny. Congrats on becoming Pro! That's awesome!! I'm actually trying to become Pro also, not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions for me?? Thanks, Matt
I did a no heat call today 3 year old furnace, went through my normal checks and noticed I didn't have ignition. I disconnected the gas flex and whalla no gas. I changed the gas shut off valve because it was seized in the off position( don't know why it was off in the first place?). Finally got ignition but burners only stayed lit for 5 to 8 seconds then shut off. After an hour of scratching my head I decided to switch the polarity coming into the unit and it worked. Burners lit and stayed on. The reason I was scratching my head was there wasn't any fault codes. I had a steady green light which meant everything was ok. First time for me.
It's called Flame Rectification. It happens when the house voltage (120) leads are switched.
See attached file.
Another no heat call today, split heat pump. The jumper wire from white to yellow was broken. It looked cut to me but who knows. Maybe it was a sting operation to see if I would and try and sell them something they didn't need. I just fixed it and left.
My name is Frank and I am 28 years old I am brand spanking new to the field. I am currently enrolled in the Associates Degree program (first year first semester) and so far I really enjoy it. I know absolutely nothing and more often then not I feel lost in class. I am excited to learn more and land a job in this field. I heard about this site from my instructor and thought it would be a great place to get plug into to the industry. I am new to this posting a thread thing. I hope I posted this in the right spot.
Thank you JPSmith..I will definitely check out that link you recommended. Much appreciated.

Hi all, i`m from Russia. I specialize in the diagnosis, repair and commissioning of chillers, multizone VRV systems and precision air-conditioners.
'll try to be useful and to learn something new)
It all started with a job opportunity at a local hospital in the maintenance department. The HVAC mechanic was going to be retiring soon and asked if i was interested in the trade. I said sure!! I began my training at the hospital while taking continuing education classes at a local college. I managed to impress a local union contractor who had the pneumatics contract for the hospital... ( 4 years has passed ). I was asked if i would be interested in joining the union contractor as an apprentice. Again, absolutely. I went through a 5 year apprenticeship through the union. Received my MES ( Mechanical Equipment Service ) card which was, through more classes and training, upgraded to journeyman. To this day, I still am learning this trade. Although my skills allow me to work on High pressure steam boilers to centrifugal chillers, my humble attitude keeps me grounded.
I have been in this Industry for over 20 years but the last 15 have been spent working for a publis school system.I don't get to see all the new stuff like technitions in the private sector so I joined this site to maybe pick those guys brains a little when I do get new equipment or controls.
