    Hey Norm, how does a charge compensator work?

    The compensator is installed "around" the vapor line to the outdoor unit. When in cooling mode, the line is hot and the refrigerant will avoid the compensator. In heating mode, the line is cold and draws liquid from the liquid line into storage.

    The vapor line runs through it but doesnt open up inside.

    docholiday is right. Another way to look at it is to think of it as a reciever.
    All my leon freaked out!
