What am I looking at here?

It looks like someone dumped a truck load of gravel on top of the unit.

Yeah, I pulled it out of the unit to better see it, and show the HO.

Its about the 5th or 6th Ruud I've found this year with cracks!? Its always the Ruuds!

Yep! 2600 feet here, maybe 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix!

However we did have a nice little hail storm today, then an hour later it was back up to 60 again!?

Today, I had an ex-millionaire (acountant scampered off with the dough) tell me that utah was a socialist country. Any truth that?

Not like Commiefornia, but very socialist by way of the dominate religion.

Does bother me, if fact, it works out quite well!

Well this one could of been easily over looked by most.
The HO had us remove it and reinstall it in the garage, thats when my guy found that one!

When you come across one just run it, then look at the flame when it starts, and watch the burners when the blower comes on, thats been the way I've found the last few. Plus the bore scope helps!

Ref Maf, the flame will jump back or roll out because the crack allows the blower to pressurize the heat exchanger tube. If the crack is big enough then it will turn the unit off by changing the pressure in the heat exchanger if there is a differential pressure switch. If the switch just reads the inducer discharge then it will only be a rollout.

I'd be looking really hard at the airflow through the new system after replacing it.
