Here in MD,on top of your refrigerant certifications, we have to carry a MD master liscense, in conjunction with an Anne Arundle county license, Prince Georges County license, Queen Anne's county license with a "limited electrical" license for anything under 90 volts. Montgomery County will probobly follow suite as well as Howard and Baltimore county. You have to carry a WSSC gas fitters license as well.
The license and permit fees, are getting rediculous. Everybody is standing around with thier hand out and you have to pay them for "protection", oops I mean permission to work in thier jurisdiction. Now add in the city crap and your payin every godfather out there. True you just pass it on to the customer, and the permits and inspections do serve to protect the customer from the "undesireables" but it seems that it's all about the money. The only inspecter I've ever seen on a job has been in AA county. It also seems they are only worried about regulating the licensed guys and the hacks run free. I've reported several, with evidence, for working with no insurance, or license and it always falls on deaf ears.
