    The greatest leaders...

...are not elected, but forged in a crucible they'd rather not face and do not boast of once through it...

    ...Major Dick Winters.
(The wise men of modern thought) adore a god made of putty or of wax - plastic, effeminate, molluscous, with no masculine faculty about him, and no quality that entitles him to the respect of just and honest men, for a being who cannot be angry at wrongdoing is destitute of one of the essential virtues, and a moral Ruler who is not angry with the wicked, and who refuses to punish crime, is not divine. ---Spurgeon

John F Kennedy and George H W Bush are 2 good examples. Kennedy's PT boat getting split in half and sinking and Bush's Plane being shot down, both of which happened fighting the Japanese in WW2. Then being elected to the Nations highest office to further their service to the country.

I'd add McCain to that list.

Sure he hasn't made it to top dog, but he had my vote in the 2000 and 2008 primaries.

I agree, but he has not passed away yet. On second thought, Bush Sr hasn't either
