Why not use an Infinity zoning system?
i have a carrier YDB with vs ahu and txv in my own home. it is a 2 story single system, and want to put an ewc zone system on it for obvious reasons
do i need a humidistat for the new stat (u/s) ?
do i need a bypass? infinity does not use them
any input is appreciated

honestly, because i got the ewc for free, boss gave it to me, all dampers, board, bypass, etc.
yes i have been good!

Yes. Humidity control is not built into any of the EWC panels .
Yes. Unless both zones are more then 70% of unit size, and the duct is over sized for zoning.
Which EWC panel is it? Looking at their 3000 panel, it looks very impressive on how it handles staging, an area where most panels lack.
With many, they time up to high and if only one zone is calling, either the furnace limit opens shortly after (and soon sticks open) or the high limit of the panel opens and starts the whole, off, low, high sequence over again. This constant short cycling will kill efficiency.
This 3000 model has 2 high limit set points, adjustable time up to high or can lock out high above a certain outdoor temp. Also has a feature where it can't go to high if less than 50% of the zones are calling, great in a 3 zone system.
It is great on a 2 zone system too. If you use a 3 zone panel, and only use 2 zones, it will never call 2nd stage when only one zone is calling if you select that option.Originally posted by BaldLoonie

We have been using the UZC boards.

We just did 2 systems with the 3000, 5 zones each, and they are great. Except the cover(gotta whine about something).
EWC is the only zoning system we use. And they make a great steam humidifier.
Both were heat pumps, both VS.
My advice would be to not use a bypass if at all possible. Run the unit on high for the smallest zone and set the other zone minimum position to apoint where the proper CFM can be delivered even at a higher static since you have an ECM, just make sure it isnt making too much noise. And then set the other zone up by opening the larger zone and setting the minimum damper on the smaller zone.
Set the first limit to back the system stage down and the second limit to shut it off.
I'll have to double check, but last I knew, EWC doesn't have adjustable dampers for the set up you described Doc.
hey Doc, I had a similar set up in my boss's home with a vs furn and no by-pass, and we had problems with it until we installed the bypass. Since we have done that work we have no problems. I too thought with a vs motor it would be best to not installl the by pass, but I do believe I was wrong. EWC insisited that the bypass must be installed and I do believe they were right. My set up was with a heat pump, and with a heatpump system it is great. You can create a hot heat pump, and deliver much warmer air.
Hvac4u a word of warning to you is to make sure you set everything up correctly, especially the supply air sensor setting, I have ran too many calls for this problem. I agree with what everybody else has said, we only install EWC now, and have great success with it. I am not sure that I agree with putting a humidistat u/s, I think I would install a h/c stat u/s and let the humidistat on the main floor control the humidifier.
