Question for the old timers here.--
Original condensing unit was a Chrysler Air-Temp from the mid-60's. Condensing unit been replaced at least a couple of times since then.
Evaporator in it now may be the original one, but not sure. Says nothing about Chrysler or Air-Temp on it.
Plate on evap says APCO, model #-----SFA 42. Serial #-----287109127.
Would this be an original 60'ish Chrysler manufactured evap or is it a generic aftermarket one?
Nothing wrong with the evaporator. In good shape and seems to work well with the current condensing unit== a 2 year old Weather King 3 ton. -----Just curious if it is the original Chrysler manufactured evaporator.
Also --who is the manufacturer of Weather King? Looks like a Heil to me. (but I have been out of the trade for over 12 years now, so can be mistaken).

APCO is Addison Products, which has been out of residential since the late 80s. Certainly not a good match for a new unit. Rheem owns WeatherKing now, was Addison's name back when they were in residential.

A 15 year old plus Addison evaporator eh?
I remember Addison well. Back in the day---Sears first line CAC was Heil/Quaker, and their second line was Addison.
Us Sears techs always thought that the second line (Addison) was much better quality wise than our first line (Heil/Quaker).
Of course we never told our customers that.
And typical of Addison, this evaporator does seem to be very well made. (even the super old plate holding screws came out slicker'n snot).

Very true. Most people didn't know Addison made for Sears. They were some tanks back then, but again 30 years ago, most stuff was well made.

The old Addisons were most definitely tanks. Built like a brick **** house they were. Almost indestructable.
