Either you use a whole lot of hot water water over the summer, or your boiler is at 60% eff.

Does it have a triple aquastat, a single, or duel.

If it has a triple, bypass the reverse action, or at least turn the low down.

I have a single aquastat. How long would it take to recoup the cost of a new (Carlin) burner? Aren't they about $500?

When you replace an old oil furnace take the burner before it goes to the scrap yard.

Save your money and replace the entire boiler instead. A good electric water heater is about 1/3 the cost of a good cast iron boiler, but the boiler will be around alot longer than any electric water heater. An economical steel boiler that's really not all that bad is a dry base Burnham. I've seen plenty of these units in the field and they've lasted quite awhile and tankless coils are soooo easy to change. That boiler is only like twice the cost of a good electric water heater too. Something to think about.

I have alot to think about. I've been talked into keeping the Amtrol. My home heatloss calculation is in the vicinity of 35,000 BTU's plus another 40,000 BTU's for the Amtrol indirect water heater. That's 75,000 BTU's. If I can get a 75% efficient burner to stick into my chamber I can use a .70 GPH nozzle and save 25% immediatley. I'm probably spending $1,000 annually now.

I just compared my Bacharach draft meter to a pocket style draft meter. They disagree by .04!!!!!
