    What kind of software protection scheme does Distech employ for the LonWatcher tool? is it a dongle, a generated pc ID, or what? Can I buy one copy and place it on several PC's?

    pc ID. So, 1 license per pc.

    I am not sure what your intention is but the demo version of lonwatcher is free, and it has:
    Functionality:
    Can do all network management functions on existing LNS database(s).
    Limitations:
    - Can not add new devices to the database.

    This way you might be able to get away with a few licensed versions for administrators and many demo versions for users.
