    Hmm Can't find restriction. Help

Got a 3 ton ruud unit that won't allow us to charge up properly. The lowside pressure drops to zero psig and the highside goes up to 150 or so. A few seconds later the internal pressure relief valve is heard and the compressor begins to heat up. We have changed both liquid and suction king valves, replaced the filter drier, cut the liquid line at the evp. and blew nitro through the coil and the liquid line it self. We also blew out the metering device. When we did the metering device there was lots of oil. When blowing the system the pressures quickly elevated. This tells me there is no big restriction? Does anyone have any suggestions?

System Age? R22? Have you checked the outdoor metering device if heat pump? Reversing valve in midshift / stuck?
Every problem gives us the opportunity to choose from several solutions: stupidity, ignorance, indifference, or brilliance. Which one will you choose?

older model Ruud 10 seer, cap tubes straight cool, not heat pump, the suction line does have some semi flattened curves but the pressure does flow through quickly. This systems evp coil was recently takened out and washed.

Sounds like plugged cap tubes. Even if you can get nitrogen to flow through there, refrigerant and oil is much denser than nitrogen. What Southern Mech said.

If it's a scroll, the compressor is running backwards, swap your two 120's at the contactor and your good to go.
