Dampen Noise from Air Handler

We have a small air handler for a bedroom upstairs. The air handler is in small nook in a closet in the bathroom. The entire upstairs bedroom is above our kitchen. The air handler is mounted horizontally on is resting on a few cinder blocks.

When the air handler operates, we can hear its running noise in the kitchen. It sounds somewhat like a 60 cycle hum. Is there a way to dampen the noise of the air handler by resting it on foam, etc. rather than on directly on the cinder blocks? Should the handler been hung from the roof trusses?

sounds like you have begun to solve your problem. Having the unit sit on cinder block will certainly transmit the unit noise

Start with the simple rubber-cork pads. Also there is what is called break-out noise so try some drywall under the unit with some insulation batt on top to catch some of that
