Shop Recycling

Does you shop recycle line sets,coils or anything else & what do you do with the money.I ask because some shops do some cool thing with the money like fishing trips or buy something for the shop so what do you do with it?

we give it all away. have a lady that comes once a week to get all the metal. she is happy to get it and i' happy to get rid of it.

We don't have a shop guy or any cheap labor so we just have a junk guy that picks up at the shop and at jobsites. He takes the bad with the good and has helped remove cast boilers from a basement and such. I hooked him up with the crane company we use and now if we use a boom truck for a job they just haul it back to the yard and he gets it from there twice a week. The crane company thanked me because now that word has gotten around that they'll do that, their business is up. The junk guy buys them donuts and stuff.

We just started keeping scrap copper. We'll see how that goes. We have two dumpsters, a small one for trash, etc. and another bigger one strictly for anything metal. A guy stops by every other day and takes what he wants from the bigger dumpster.

But what do you plan to do with the money?Don't put the coils in the dumpster they are worth money.

I think one of the best life lessons I gave my two sons, was collecting all my scrap, and having them sort, clean and separate it. You should have heard the whining and *****ing, seen the foot dragging! Separated into #1, #2, and brass. I would call the junkie for pricing, and let them decide if it was time to sell.

We would load up, take it to the recycler, where they could see what hard, dirty work was all about. They watch how it was weighed and checked, then to the cashier. When the sweetie behind the bullet-proof glass started sliding out the cash, all I had to do was watch their eyes gettin' big, along with a big grin.

Then on to a good lunch, then the big boy toy store for them to spend part of their loot.

***** is, they got the money, and I still had to buy lunch!

Young Dads, think about it. JMO

I give all my copper to "Recycle Michael" the guy who recycles my steel. Poor bastard. He needs it.

Not sure what's in the works with the scrap copper. Depends on how much we save.

Yes I took one in I got $24. for it they add up.

All of our scrap copper is saved, then recycled. Each year we take the money from scrap, bank it, and wait till Dec., make one hell of a nice Christmas bonus.

Now that was what I was looking for thiers alot of money in recycled old hvac equipment.
