Joel is just tellin 'em what they want to hear, giving 'em what they want. It goes down easy with no adverse after effects.

Easy listening, muzak music. Nothing wrong with that, he fills the house.

I disagree with Osteen on several points.

    1) Following Christ and the bible is not always fun. Sometimes it's difficult and unpleasant.

    2) God does not want you to be rich or to be without problems. He loves you but sometimes it's the problems and hardships that make us stronger, that teach us important things.

    3) There is no "magic" in Christianity that guarantees you will have whatever you ask for. The idea of "ask and you shall receive" only applies when you have the wisdom and guidance to ask for the right things.

I went to a "megachrurch" here in town becuase of their band. Its an awesome band. I would actually buy their CDs and still do, and jam out to them while crusing around town.
While going, my life was overall much better. The guy was a great preacher. BUT...

church is a business we all know that, I got tired of watching the market go down on a friday, and then during the weekend their was no scripture it was all about why you Need to give more to the church, at that time we were tithing 18% because we wanted to. Then the next week he says dont bring any friends or visitors cause where gonna talk about giving.

His thinking was if you GIVE EVERYTHing to the church (Your cars, cash, and House) then the lord will take care of you.

Im sorry I believe in christ and all but I aint giving up my home.

Overall though he is a great preach (Bill Corneilus)

In the last year, I catch Joel Osteen on Sunday Mornings on TV. I like this guy. He's so dang positive. He doesn't ask for money. And through time he has proven to be an okay dude.
I personally enjoyed his services back before they moved into what was once The Compact Center (Houston Rockets) here in Houston (which was a city financial fiasco as Lakewood Church bought a 20 million dollar building for somewhere in the range of 7.5) as it seemingly was a lot more personal back then.

I like Joel too, always have, and have quickly met him and his wife Victoria but I don't attend the services any longer, in person I should say.

If he doesn't make it as a TV preacher, he could be a travelling AC sales roadie. We could learn a lot from a guy like that.
    Jim Baker is still alive?

Giving up everything to follow Christ was the right way when Christ was the direct overseer of all daily activities. It worked when He said "follow me," and you could do that literally, as a part of His church, the "first" church.

Today, you aren't really giving up everything to Christ, but to a preacher, and you are still living in The World. Unless you created a cloistered collective of some sort, giving up everything is not a tenable approach, because you still have to earn money to live, and giving up everything can only happen today with a support structure in place. Megachurches are not such a structure.

    Exclamation

JO was asked if you could get to heaven other than through Christ and he hemmed & hawed then said he didn't want to comment on God's judgement of any one person. WHAT??? The Bible cannot be more clear on this issue: The ONLY way to heaven is through Jesus Christ-period. If you do not accept Christ as your personal savior and the Son of God, you are not going to heaven or enjoy eternal life. That's not my opinion---its God's word. If that hurts the feelings of Jews, aetheists, Muslims, Hindus, etc. then oh well. God's Holy Word does not apply to just Jews but the whole world. In fact, God took one of the worst persecutors of Believers (Saul) and converted him into his voice to the gentiles so they also would receive His Word. If these people reject Christ then they do Not go to heaven but they die and burn in hell for eternity---all according to the Bible. No sugar coating about it. It is amazing how people will reject this promise from God with such a cheap price of admission then embrace all sorts of worldly sins, false promises and failures.

Let me be clear---NO one on this earth can deliver Hope. That comes only from the Son of God offering you eternal life if you would only believe and accept Him.
