how many of you guys insulate the txv itself?

    I do, for two reasons

One is to stop it from condensating if it is hanging outside an air handler in a humid mech room, and the other is I will know if it was adjusted the next time I go there.

Depends. In a freezer yes because the ice may not be handled by the defrost cycle. In a cooler sometimes. Depends on whether the water is going to head down the drain or onto the floor. I have have powerheads rot on 3-5 year old ice machines because of insulation.
Is this a Fabreze moment? C.Y.D. I'm voting white elephant. 2.
