Thread: Air intake fan replacement?

I've got a RUUD Gas heater that's a combo unit with my AC, everything's outside. My heater's been coming on seemingly at random. I found out that there is (I think) an air intake fan under the front shroud of the unit (top right) that is sticking when I turn the thermostat to get the heater to come on. While the heater is trying to come on, I can poke this fan with a screwdriver and get it to spin a few times and then it sticks. I've WD-40'd the heck outta the bearings and such on this motor to try and keep it unstuck, to no avail. Where might I find a replacement motor assembly for this?

Can't I get one on my own? I don't want to pay markup when I already know what part I need and I know I can install it.

What's that part called again? And what is it's purpose? And what caused it to fail?

It's the air intake fan that's used to draw in outside air for combustion. I'm assuming mere age has caused it to fail.

Talk to a local heating dealer. They may sell you one uninstalled. You won't get it for cost, markup is how we cover overhead and pay the help, such as me!
