I know all you pros know if carrier or york is the cadilac.
I don't, I just want the best value for my dollar now and in the long run. Future repairs down the line.
If my installer/company goes to crap, who is more likely to step up and help... carrier or york?
Prices are all over the place so ya don't have a clue who fair or trying to secure a trip to the bahamas.
Does carrier cost a 1,000 more wholesale than york? Does trane cost a 1,000 more than carrier?
I would think that they all much closer in wholesale price than what is let on here or anywhere else.
If all the units are crap, then why not buy cheap as it gets and replace every 5 years.
Maybe ya'll should try to do something to clean up the product manufacture and who installs them.
List all the junk products and who install them and maybe people on the outside could weed it out from there.
This is not ment to offend anyone who still takes pride in their work, we just wish we knew who you where and what part of the country.

It's not the product, as much as the installer.

The very "best" equipment, installed & applied improperly, is not better than the "worst" equipment, installed & applied properly.

Sadly, there will always be a low bid, and somebody shopping for a low bid.
Therefore, there will always be shoddy workmanship.
It is near impossible to change that.

Generally, you get what you pay for.

Every brand name has a "Cadillac" AND a "Chevette".

Having a quality ducting system and treating the appliance as in just buying the cheapest and plan to replace it at a given interval, sounds like a plan to me. I don't feel that there is that much difference in any of the units they are all made substandard compared to their ancestors, the manufacturers seem to try to sell equipment on a variety of non-tangible factors and often misleading factors such as efficeincy, quiet, comfort, when they all use the same darn parts and engineering anyway.

Make sure your comparing apples to apples.
    Same seer, grade, and size.
You can get 15 seer builder grade, or high end, there's a big price difference between grades.

When you buy that system, your also paying for training on how to properly set them up, and service them.

    Good Luck.

Lol, I never heard York be referred to as a cadillac.

Listen the instalation is critical this is most true. On top of the instalation the equipment does matter. Yes you can have a peice of junk installed properly and have some satisfaction, or a great peice installed like crap and get virtually none. However a great installation AND a great peice of equipment will provide you with unmatched comfort and reliability. There is a differenc.

If your hung on numbers alone you will get a different answer than if you are hung on comfort alone. Somewhere in the middle of all that, is a great system at a price that reflects its true value.

No one here can answer that question unless given the opportunity to truely understand your desires and match it with thier ability.
