If the POE oil in your system has gone to acid, there are tests to determine. If those tests come back positive, Trane will foot the boot for equipment repair or replacement, even though they are not directly at fault.

The contractor, on the other hand, may not do the right thing so easily.

I will ask for them to do the acid tests, I guess. The comapny that came out has apparently been doing a lot of 'after the fact' fixups for HD that had some bad installers in the area. We'll see how it goes.

Home Depot + almost anything = low end contractors.

Scream LOUD and LONG to HD & Trane.

Trane should know better.

No, no, my unit was not originally put in by a HD contractor. The tech had assumed I was because that was all of the calls they (the second company)had been getting lately. He was thinking HD was going to pick up the cost of the lineset.

Now, if the orignal installer, who was a comfort specialist dealer, botched this thing by not following Tranes recommendations of replacing the lineset when moving from r22 to r410a, and if there's acid in there from not cleaning well enough, then yes, someone other than I will be paying for all of this. If I buy a Trane from a Trane specialist I don't expect any shortcuts. I bought a Trane to hopefully get away from all this kind of mess. And I don't think that this guy was the lowest of the bids I got.

My mistake.

Looks like the Trane tech made the same assumption.

Poor guy only gets to see mad people all day long.
