Thread: Trane or Rheem

I am looking to have central air installed. One contractor only installs Trane. The 2nd only installs Rheem. I am not familiar with Rheem. Any comments or suggestions?

Rheem are the same as Ruud if you've heard of them?
They are both good company and been around for awhile.
The installing dealer is more important than the names.. It been said many times on who perfers what.
Just make sure they did a heat gain on the house for the right sized system, and if this a change out, make sure they do the A-Coil and line set as well.

After changing the transformer today on a Trane inside that goofy control box, I think I would go with a Rheem or a Goodman.

I'd go with a Trane XL 19i. Rheem, Ruud , and Goodman don't even compare.

Suggestion: Learn the difference between a good contractor and a bad one. Learn enough and you'll realize how incredibly poor most of the workmanship is out there. After that you won't care one wit about the brand. Finding a good craftsman will be your top priority. But if not... you were warned.

I would make a guess that the Trane dealers is not offering a 19 SEER unit.

Ask for the performance data for both units and brands, then compare their answers and data for yourself. Depending on your location the highest seer may or not be the best choice. A/S's group has more versatility in combinations of a/h's and condensors.
