    I need some help with a carrier 19xr ( hi pressure)

    I have an factory overhaul book i just got. but im going to do a 5 year inspection starting after the new year on several machines and i didnt know if anyone has any kind of cheat sheet or info they can pass me. Ive done lots of overhauls before but only Trane and a few york hi press machines never anything with a gear box. any help would be great

    I may be wrong but the 19 series doesn’t have a gear box.

    The 17 series low pressure had a gear box.

    The "gearbox" on a 19XR is essentially the same type that is on a York.

    Carrier Chillers

    Carrier chilling equipment nomemclature is as follows:

    05 Series are open drive recp or screw compressors only
    06 Series are Hermetic recp or screw compressors only
    16 Series units are Absorption units, water cooled cond.
    17 Series units are Open drive centrifugal chillers, water cooled cond.
    19 Series units are Hermetic centrifugal chillers, water cooled cond.
    23 Series units are large tonnage Screw chillers, water cooled cond.
    30 Series units are recp or screw package chillers, air or water cooled
    32 Series - electronic controls, motor master, PIC I, II, III.

    Hope this will clarify some questions.

    If you are going to go through all of the trouble to tear down the chiller you might as well plan on rebuilding it. Five years sounds kind of early to be tearing into it. I would go on hours instead of years. If there isn't a large number of starts, and you are not having any problems, I wouldn't tear into it until it had a least seventy thousand hours.

    then it must not be a 19, cause my boss told it was, and said i had to take out the high speed. But told me to do my homework on a 19xr.

    5 years seems to be a standard around here. most companies do a 5 year inspections on machines like these. It is not fully torn down, but i kinda agree.

    Five years was standard on the old low pressure machines, but on the high pressure machines it mostley based on hours. To inspect the bearings and the shafts you have to take the compressor all the way down, so you might as well change the bearings.

    5 years is a decent time to pull the kingsbury thrust and adjust/replace the pads,etc. Not sure you really need to go into the low speeed side of things. Everything will pull out the nose and reassemble back thru the nose. JMHO
    Your poor planning does not constitute an emergency on my part!!!!

    Hello Johny I need your help. Please can you send me overhaul book for Carrier 19XR. I have disassemble compressor and I need documentation.

    You shouldn't need a complete overhaul, was there a bad oil sample or just wanting to check thrust?

    I need to check all bearing thrust and I dont have documentation to find allowable tolerance
