When we talk about unitary systems there is a term that comes up called the cop[cofficient of performance). The formula for this has symbols in it such as Tc Th and I think one other thing but my question is What do these symbols mean?

Carnott
temp of heat source and temp of heat sink in absolute [R] or [K].
You can apply these temps to the Carnott expression, but the results are very idealized (read: way never gona happen). Using saturation temps for Th and Tc is more useful, but still dreaming. The COP and SCOP are useful for comparison and benchmarking.
If you dig math and details, rock on. Most people in HVAC quote the hell of it w/o knowing much more than big number is better, tell HO, sell up.
BTW, it is very optimistic to expect ARI COP in any real installation.
