My daughter turned 16 last week, looks like time for a car.Did everyone buy their kid a car when they got their license? Thinking about a VW Beetle cause they are so cool... and good gas milage... Wonder if I can put a ladder rack on one?? This is what I thought GD was for ... sorry no soft porn.

I had to get a job and buy my own car, with parents help. My son will have to do the same thing.

They will respect the car more if they have to purchase, maintain and buy insurance.

Yeah, man. Peer pressure can be ruthless. But if she's making payments, she can say she bought it and owns it. That way she generates peer suction, if ya know what I mean.

My mother got me my 1st car which was a 79' Pinto. I tore that up pretty quick. Then I bought my own which was a 64 SS Chevelle and it was babied.

There is a world of difference between girls and boys with the way they treat their cars. I think she will truly appreciate it and take very good care of it. What you have to make sure of is that she don't let other people drive it and make it clear that she can call you for a ride anytime if she screws up and decides to drink.

I vote for by the girl a car. What ever she wants. Go ahead and spoil her good, while you can. Just preach safety, safety, safety.

Mom gave me my 1st car, an 81 AMC eagle. She ended up getting a different car at that time so I got the beast lol. From then on I've bought my own, sometimes with a bit of help, but not much.

Are you 2 looking at a new car or a used? I'd definately steer towards used... Personally I say if you can comfortably afford it, go ahead and get her one. Teach her how to be a good driver, respect her car and do not forget to teach her how to do the basic maintenence. I know you probably aren't exactly interested in making her even more appealing to guys (I think that comes when she's around 30? lol), but I dated one girl who could do just about any basic repairs to her car.. man that was cool!

I'm thinking used, since it is her first car and it will be parked at the high school parking lot most of the day. I guess dads spoil girls more than their sons.. gave son old work truck to drive to school... but got him better car for college.

My parents used their money to buy me a car. I had to pay them a certain amount every month until it was paid off. I thought that was great. I wasn't able to afford a car at 16 or get a loan for that matter. I thank them. I also had to pay the insurance.

That thought has crossed my mind a coule times.... maybe a Hummer or a 57 Chevy. Hell, I keep thinking of cars for me !!
