speedy you got some pretty good numbers for almost 3,000 sq. Ft. House what type of insulation do you have thru out the house ?
for me my house in east central Wi approx 1600 sq. Ft. Thru the winter months I average anywhere from a $100/month up as high as $185/month on a solid cold temps that would hover in low teens, single digits. for the summer as soon as the weather breaks in spring we run the AC and set it and forget it and leave it run at 68* all summer. our bills thru out the summer average $85/month As for equipment I currently have Infinity 3 stage Mod and a Payne 10 seer AC which I hope to upgrade very soon, still debating on either straight AC or HP.

House has passive solar features, tight envelope and ducts, R19 cavity plus R4 continuous (EIFS). DHW and heat pump are sub-metered. Consumption based on 2 years data. Minimum lows last winter were in the high 20's, a bit above normal for my location.
Dan, first of all the house is Built Green Level 3. Was close to level four. Standard bat insulation in the six inch walls. Low E2 argon gas vinyl windows, R-30 under the floor and R-50-55 in the ceiling and radiant barrier in the rafters. I put in the radiant barrier and the additional insulation. Wish I would have put in foam in the walls and under the house when it was built. Live and learn.
Trane XL141 single stage heat pump (R-22) nearly four years old and a 90% efficient Trane gas furnace. I live in a neighborhood of custom homes, some a little smaller and some a little larger. Only two neighbors I know of-- and we all talk-- have bills lower than mine. One is the fellow with radiant floor heat and the other is directly across the street who has a wood stove and $30,000 worth of solar panels (3KWH system) on his roof. My bill this month was nearly $100 lower than the average according to Puget Sound Energy.
I made the insulation and radiant barrier upgrade mid-way through the first year in the house. I also adjusted the balance point of the heat pump to run until it was about 20 degrees outside and then kick over to natural gas. I know this is heresy, but I bought and installed a licensed KVAR unit in April 2008 one year after living in the house. It does work.
My 2007 base year KWH useage was 18,598 and my gas useage was 184.76 therms.
After changing the balance point mid-way through the first year (November 2007) and adding the insulation at that time, too and then putting in the KVAR in April 2008, the KWH useage dropped further, even though you'd expect it to increase because of the balance point adjustment (less gas being used). In reality, my full last year figures taken from April 2009 to March 2010 show total KWH useage at 16,684 and natural gas useage at 66.0.
I keep daily logs of KWH useage-- part of the anal retentive side of me. My wife just laughs.
Hope that helps, Dan.
OK I'll bite, here's the gas bill for 2007 to 2008, gas is cheaper now... This is a 1400 square foot 2 storey, with a insulated unfinished 700 square foot basement
Edmonton, Alberta (similar to Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota) 2 adults
Keep house at appx 72F
NG fuel for heating boiler and use attached indirect DHW heater
Electricity for cooking and lighting, no air conditioning
No fireplace
Attached 240 square foot unheated garage
Design temperature of house is 39,000 BTU at -35C (-31F)
The actual gas bills...
Dates, then the total (calculated with taxes and service charges) gas cost, the actual gas used cost and the actual usage in GJ
Nov 19 2007 (Oct11 to Nov08 = $50.44), gas cost $16.13, 3.08 GJ
Dec 17 2007 (Nov08 to Dec10= $91.31), gas cost $48.34, 8.33 GJ
Jan 17 2008 (Dec10 to Jan14 = $112.66), gas cost $72.20, 11.15 GJ
Feb 19 2008 (Jan 14 to Feb 08=$84.75), gas cost $56.46, 8.13 GJ
Mar 18 2008 (Feb 08 to Mar 12=$88.39), gas cost $57.16, 7.21 GJ
April 16 2008(Mar 12 to Apr 10=$77.55), gas cost $46.30, 5.21 GJ
May 16 2008(Apr 10 to May 12=79.04), gas cost $34.80, 4.19 GJ
Jun 17 2008(May 12 to Jun 10=42.75) , gas cost $7.93, 1.04 GJ
Jul 17 2008(Jun 10 to Jul 09=60.59), gas cost $23.64, 2.05 GJ
Aug 19 2008(Jul 9 to Aug 11=37.07), gas cost $0.00, 0.00 GJ
Sep 17 2008(Aug 11 to Sep 10=54.58), gas cost $16.80, 2.05 GJ
Oct 17 2008(Sep 10 to Oct 10=40.84), gas cost $5.18, 1.01 GJ
Totals: $819.98, gas used $384.94, usage 53.45 GJ (506.71 Therms)
One GigaJoule is approximately 9.48 Therms, so 53.45 GigaJoules per year is about 506.71 therms. Also, note that I pay more in service and delivery fees than actual gas used... We were away in August, hence the zero amount...
Hope this is entertaining for those in warmer places...
Here's one for a chuckle.

I wonder why Efficiency hasn't posted HIS numbers. Is that you Barack checking on us ???
.
I thought he had in his first post. It just wasn't as detailed as some us of us. Perhaps he works for the Census Bureau. In their second survey they demand to know what you spent on your last bill, along with a bunch of other personal information they have no business requesting. They say if you don't answer you can get fined.
We refused and then blocked their number. I was wondering in which country I was residing.

It's my first time heating with 100% electricity, but I think it's actually quite good for the heating options we have up here.
