I heard this question asked today, and you would be surprised at the number of people that believe it was Marconi!

Could you define the question a bit more?

Do you mean the item itself, or the concept? Do you mean one that worked at "whatever" frequency, or do you mean one that operates on a specific frequency?

Do you mean a modulated signal on a carrier frequency, or do you mean "on and off" mode, like my uncle, SFB Morse did?

I assume you mean wireless, because radio freqs also travel on wire.

Marconi was certainly there, in the beginning.

No you have him confused. That was Yankee Doodle who thought it was Macaroni.

Marconi was first to make money out of this idea,
and that is why he was declared an inventor of the radio.

Now now...here is the "world" being defined as being limited by the US borders again. The oldest radio station in North America is CFCF in Montreal, Canada.

    Here are the full facts:

And here is who supplied those facts......

Donald G. Godfrey (Ph.D., University of Washington, 1975) is a Canadian who currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Radio and Television, University of Arizona, Tucson. He has an active interest in legal history, media criticism, and program production.

Everyone knows it is KDKA in Pittsburgh.
