HO Heat Pump Question

Not sure how to ask this question in an educated form so here goes:


When a heat pump goes into defrost mode:

a- Is this some form of going into A/C mode?

b- Does it produce condensation that would drip from the air handler thru the drain pipe?

I'm the dude that has the water sounding drip drip drip in the wall. The copper lines are adjacent to the condensation drip pipe.

yes. but everything is now reversed. so in a way, the condensation that is usually draining from the interior with ac, is now the frost buildup on the exterior unit in heat. kind of.

Yes the system does switch to cooling mode to defrost, Usually this is for only a few minutes, not long for enough condensation to form and flow out the drain pipe, any condensation that does form on the coil will evaporate shortly after the system returns to heating.

Do you have a humidifier on your heat pump.

It would help us to know where your unit is located? attic,closet,basement.

Where does the drain line go to ? bathroom sink, drain pipe from foundation, straight pipe through roof in attic.

Is there a humidifier?
