Thats always fun... At least it wasn't carrying chlorine...
A real one. Quarter mile north of town. One train rearended another and a third got involved somehow. Only one minor injury. Car hauler burned over an hour before our volenteer department could get a hose to it.

um, ya...
there was one not far from here several weeks ago that was carrying chlorine. nine deaths and multiple injuries.
i wanted to put a picture here
Thats the one I was talking about....
I see derails all of the time, maybe 4 or 5 a year in my plant or in the county. In plant are slow speed derails. In county are still slow speed derails. The most derails are caused by human error, switching tracks, speed, commucation proplems. The next is the tracks wearing out then the ties are rotten. Go to the next RR track, when you get a chance and look at the rotten ties. Roy
i wasn't aware you were talking about a deadly accident.Originally posted by cde72

my prayers are with thier families. sorry for the comment.
They used to drive small nails with dated heads into the ends of the ties. 25 means 1925.Originally posted by oroy54

I have never seen that, about the dates. I have heard about the stamp on the end of the tie.
now that's one heck of a clear picture
One of my customers own some train cars. In fact he has kept me very busy this winter at one of his farms. He has an executive car, lounge car, and baggage car on one set of tracks. On another set he has a caboose and box car.Originally posted by oroy54

He also has a car stored at the Amtrac terminal in KC. Amtrac will pull it when he wants. He also has at least one junker stored on the tracks by our shop.
In between the tracks at his farm he has the old depot from Welda, Ks.
Not your ordinary service calls out there.
