I've been looking at furnaces and I see some have DC motors. Is there anything different that needs to be done when installing the electric to the furnace? Is there some sort of converter required?

No, there is nothing different about the supply voltage. There are set up switches in the furnace which must be set though. The dc motor is a variable speed motor and uses far less electricity to operate. It is a good motor to run constantly to eliminate stratofication.

The DC mtr you're refering to goes by several differnt names, ECM (electronicly communtated motor), varible is probably the most often employed. This is excellent technology & I highly recomend it.... but get the extended warranty, you won't believe the replacement cost.
