News Media and "Breaking News" <just a little rant>

I have to say, I'm sick of the media using the term "Breaking News".

Really? Back in the "old days" breaking news was an important announcement that affected everyone. Like "the damn burst and we are all going to be underwater in the next 30 seconds"

Nowadays "breaking News" is ----> "Channel (insert a number) is the first to bring you breaking news, a little old lady drove through her garage door in the suburbs"

seriously? do I really need to know that immediately? Is that so important I can't live without that knowledge is this kind of "news" going to change how my day goes?

Breaking News - we do not know much of what is going on with this story but we have nothing else of interest to report on.

along with weather warnings....used to be they would only do the warning noise on the TV and have a message if you where in immediate danger...now its on every time it rains hard or the wind blows as it is snowing (which is every time it snows)
