crawl space backup gas furnace

In building a new home in east Va what are pros/cons on gas unit being installed in the crawlspace. The fnd is 1 block higher than normal.

As long as there is good access, none.

where's the filter gonna be? if it is in the crawl, it won't get changed.

I don't know about Va. but around here all crawl spaces stay damp and furnaces don't last as long. I only put them in crawl spaces if there is no way to do it in the house.

I did the crawl space deal last year. The space during heating season worked good. In cooling season the condisation was bad.
Water ran off the evaporator like it was raining. I had to close off the basement vents and install a dehumidifier with condisate pump. I also added insulation on the wall and added another layer of plastic in the opposite direction of the exsisting plastic. This is in Delaware which should be the same condition you will have. Plan for this in the construction and you should have no problems. (Note: the vents in the crawl space are also to prevent flooding and foundation damage, so if your near water you may not close them off. Check with the building inspector.)
If you can concrete the floor spend the money! I was trying to save a buck.
