Heat exchanger
I have a 30 ra030 with a scaled heat exchanger planning on cleaning it Saturday. Carrier says use 5% hydrocloric acid. Has any one had any luck cleaning one. Chiller is about 7 years old with no water treatment.

Did you check the strainer?

It takes three people to do anything around here. Two do the work, one explains to the crowd of people who showed up when they seen smoke and flames.

Yes check pump curve also. Pump is doing more than it needs The approach was over 15 degrees if I remember correctly. Have a 10 psi psi drop across heat exchanger

If your pumping more than it needs, then your approach and pressure drop across heat exchanger is going to be high. Also, you can have an oil logged heat exchanger. Is this a shell and tube heat exchanger, or a plate frame heat exchanger?

This is a plate heat exchanger.

What is the design pressure drop across the heat exchanger? What is the design delta T?

The design pressure drop is 5-1/2 to 6 psi The design delta is 10 degrees

Try slowing your flow down to achieve design pressure drop, load chiller to 100%, and see if you achieve design delta T and check for an improvement in your approach.

Will do thank you. I spent all day up there to day running a hydrocloric solution Did not get a lot out of it. I don't have balancing valves I have full port valves on both in and out. Which one do suggest throttling down?
