well when it was only penny candy....little wax pop bottles, kits, jolly ranchers, licorice shoe laces, hot dog gum, root beer barrels, boston baked beans, candy cigerrets, black jack gum, charlston chew , cinnamon bears, the little chocolate candy coated balls, mini malted milk balls, cherry-olet , pom poms, milk duds, 5th avenue, milk shake and zero bars, rocky road. Hot Tamales. We used to collect soda bottles @ 2 cents a piece, and then head to the corner store and trade them in for penny candy. We used to get 7 or 8 Hot Tamales for a penny. We'd go there with 7 or 8 bottles, and the owner would go nuts, counting out 100 Hot Tamales.

There was nothing like a hot summer day, sitting on a fence with a bag of Hot Tamales and 4 or 5 Freeze Pops. Life was so simple then.

It was those peanut's that came in a small red can, sort of like the old Levi Garrett snuff can. It would have a penny, nickle or if your lucky a quarter inside for a prize. Then a RC cola or a "10-2-4".
