Let me clarify one thing. The problem with the 3rd world is for the most part they are socialists and a lot are Muslims. Thank you very much.

My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution."

Kuwait was done after Saddam ask the US if it was OK. Transcript Saddam Hussein asking April Glaspie, United States Ambassador to Baghdad, if he could take over Kuwait.

HUSSEIN: If we could keep the whole of the Shatt al Arab - our strategic goal in our war with Iran - we will make concessions (to the Kuwaitis). But, if we are forced to choose between keeping half of the Shatt and the whole of Iraq (i.e., in Saddam’s view, including Kuwait) then we will give up all of the Shatt to defend our claims on Kuwait to keep the whole of Iraq in the shape we wish it to be. (pause). What is the United States’ opinion on this?

GLASPIE We have no opinion on your Arab - Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary (of State James) Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960’s, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America. (Saddam smiles)’
One month later in Baghdad, British journalists obtained the tape and transcript of the Hussein-Glaspie meeting on July 25, 1990. In order to verify this astounding information, they attempted to confront Ms. Glaspie as she was leaving the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

    Journalist 1:

"Are the transcripts (holding them up) correct, Madam Ambassador?"

    (Ambassador Glaspie does not respond)

    Journalist 2:

"You knew Saddam was going to invade (Kuwait), but you didn't warn him not to. You didn't tell him America would defend Kuwait. You told him the oppose - that America was not associated with Kuwait."

    Journalist 1:

"You encouraged this aggression - his invasion. What were you thinking?"

    U.S. Ambassador Glaspie:

"Obviously, I didn't think, and nobody else did, that the Iraqis were going to take ALL of Kuwait."

As far as raining down mortars on a village, two soldiers were killed. So unless they got lucky or they were aiming at a military instillation.

And as what kind of nut their leader is? Pretty much everyone believes he is the flakiest in the whole world.

History has proven that if you turn a blind eye to what's going on in the world it will come back to bite you in the a**. Hitler could have been stopped earlier....Hussein could have been stopped earlier. One of the major roles of our military is to keep it OFF our shores. Same as it is in business-"nipping it in the bud" earlier saves a lot of future problems.
Yeah, it is a real joke, with all our military equipment they could end all of this crap with our service men never setting foot inside of these countries. The US leaders have to stop being such pusses and drop a nuke every once in a while to keep world peace.

What do nukes have to do with what I said? Any self respecting country won't use them, and that is what makes the world afraid for NK or Hussein to get a nuke. He has already proved he is nutty enough to use them.

When I joined the service I KNEW I might be called upon to put my life on the line-I might have to go to war (and actually did) I knew that was a posibility when I SIGNED UP. Nobody has been DRAFTED.

Are you are worried about the service men who just joined the military to get the GI Bill and are complainin' they now have to earn it? The U.S. has been pre-positioning service-men for over a hundred years....

But is it constitutional? I am not for sending our young men abroad to police the planet. I am glad you made it out OK, but the war in the gulf never was known for a high body count. My original point is that US soldiers are just as dispensable as Chinese soldiers in the eyes of both governments.

U.S. soldiers are not as dispensable, they have a job to do and one of the jobs is to show a presence in the "Hot spots". It's not safe work, but necessary to allow diplomacy to work.

Beware of the military industrial complex!
I believe this is part of it. The 'military industrial complex' is a bunch of contractors that design and then make the hardware we use on the battlefield.

IMO the negative thing is we need 'brush wars' to justify this expenditure. The good thing (IMO) is we get to have the most powerful military on the earth... and nobody in their right mind would attach our shores.

SO; IMO it is a mixed bag... with a small silver lining.
