    fusible plugs

Acetylene cylinders have plugs(fusible plugs) in the top and bottom of the cylinder and melt at a specific tempurature for safety reasons. What is the tempurature?

I think he should put his tank in the oven and slowly raise up the temp. He can record it in a book, when ya find the book after the explosion, whatever the last recorded temp was in there will be pretty close.

    I heard it's quicker

just to lay the tank down and knock the top off with a sledge hammer. Do it near some sort of ignition or you loose the whole "Rocket Effect".
