I heard it's quicker
just to lay the tank down and knock the top off with a sledge hammer. Do it near some sort of ignition or you loose the whole "Rocket Effect".

I don't know why. I did a Google search and found those figures repeatedly.
Personally, I never sterolize my tanks anyway.
