When replacing a bullet drier (2-3)cu.in.) on a self contained cap tube cabinet with a co52 what is the difference in the charge. I usually figure 1 once.

Factories tell me that a c032s will add 1.5 to 2.5 oz to your charge. (Traulsen/Hobart,True,Bev Air and such)
When using a larger drier the size like an 052 there is no telling how much liquid to add. Try pointing the outlet end of the drier straight down. This will give you a liquid seal for the captube. A drier that size will act like a small receiver and hold enough liquid that your charge may not as critical as long as there is not an overcharge.
Weigh in factory first and add 2 oz. Check subcooling when just above set temp and adjust your charge. I'll bet you can go 3.5 oz before you overcharge the unit.

With all due respect to Andy... Manufacturers of refrigeration systems do not follow the spec book from Sporlan. Had my hand slapped a few times on that even after faxing them the Sporlan info.
All refrigeration companies want to tell you .oz increase with their calculations. The few I named above are always at least 1 oz or more lower than the Sporlan book. Guess it helps them to pump their chests every now and again.
Don't get me wrong Andy... only drier you will find in our trucks are Sporlan.

lusker & andy
I understand what your saying. Sporlan is on my van too. I was told by phone that the system was undercharged by 2-2.5oz. when I used a co50 drier in place of the bullet. I size driers by Sporlans recommendations, not by flow capacity. Been using the 1oz. thing for years. Just posed the question because of what I was told over the phone. Thanks again for the help.
