    So you trust the BBB?

Few people realize how the BBB actually works. I was approached about joining the BBB shortly after starting up. As I looked into becoming a member I noticed a handful of AC companies who are known in our trade circle as, less than honest, with A+ ratings. I drilled the salesman about this very concern and he informed me that as long as complaints are resolved the rating of the contractor is not affected in a negative way. This does not mean that the customer necessary got what they wanted as much as it means the contractor was willing to address the complaint. I think this sheds a light on the BBB that makes it a less than honest organization and even serves as an enabling means for unscrupulous businesses to scam the public.

    Any other business owners agree?

I think the BBB is a good thing. If the customer is not satisfied by the solution then the complaint is not resolved. Also what does it say about companies that are not part of the BBB?

BBBs resolution process, we dont see that you did anything wrong, but show some good will and pay up.

not being a member doesn't make you bad any more than being a member makes you good.
I know of a few companies that are outright thieves who are in good standing with the BBB

"paying up" doesn't make your original intent just go away...it means you got caught but as long as you pay you can still play.

BBB gets most of its members from first time complaints, owner feel like they need to hurry and sign up, to get the A rating.

I was a member for five years until they forfeited my confidence.

They lost a ton of credibility in this area with so many other business', not just HVACR.

    eff em is right.

The BBB is nothing more than a bunch of power hungry nobodies. They're a joke. The fact that you spoke to a "salesman" speaks volumes. Do you think the FBI has "sales people"? No. I'll never join the BBB. They're jokers. I'll buy an ad in "Consumer Reports". They're basically the same thing.

Isn't Consumer Reports for products rather than services?

I think it's obvious that most contractors see throught the BBB's fake facade but hopefully the public will see them for who they really are on websites like this one.
