Anyone know if a Ranco E15-6202 defrost timer will replace/work in place of Ranco E15-2231??? I have old GE Weathertron Heat pump with the 2231 that capillary tube chaffed through. Can't seem to find 2231 but see 6202's available.

    Ranco E15-2231

Ranco E15-2231 on my old Weathertron shot. Read your note about substituting E15-6202 and wondered how it went. Any problems? Steve

    re Defrost timer

    Steve,

The E15-6202 worked fine, only thing is the capillary tube is a bit shorter, but with a little re routing it was OK.

Hello, hope it is OK to bring back this old thread.

The OP asked if the E15-6202 will replace the E15-2231. This was confirmed.

I am curious if the E15-2601 is also a valid replacement? The box says it replaces the E15-2213 (not 2231).

The service technician installed the E15-2601 to replace the E15-2231 and within a couple hours our thermostat burned up scorching the wires, drywall, etc.

Does this sound like it could have been caused by an improper replacement part? Incorrect wiring? Or some other factor?

    Any insight will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mootsie
