There no such thing as good news in Flordia, Hot, sand, and hurricanes. Wait a minute! Daytona 500, now that's good.

I thought that heat was good for business. Somebody in Fla must be making some money.

I have worked non- union residential my whole career so I understand about working hard. I don't make $30 an hour now and expect to have to learn new techniques and prove myself all over again. Can somebody say something encouraging?

I'm pretty sure I'll find work but I'm looking for a livable wage.

5 yrs ago top wage for residential in Ft. myers was $13.00 to $ 15.00 an hr. That was with a large company. I doubt it has gone up much.

If there is anyone in Ft Myers making more that 36 a year please let me know. There has to be more than owners who can afford to live there. My wife has been offered a job there, I just need to be able to contribute. Should I apply at wal mart as a cashier instead?

I moved to Ft Myers from Chicago right after Hurricane Charlie. I got in with the largest company down here, $15 an hour + OT right out of trade school. Lead installers that just came on are getting $25 /hr. Don't let some of these guys discourage you. They did the same thing to me when I asked the questions. It has it's ups and downs. Things get slow in service during Oct - Dec, but installs are backed up til March.

Thanks for an encouraging reply. Did you find work in residential or commercial?

Once again, thanks to all who have actually worked in Florida and responded. I wil absolutely line up a job before I go. Anybody hiring? It's a good thing Columbus never listened to the naysayers.
