    when troubleshooting a pyrostat it is a good idea to ---- before performing the checkout procedure a.bend the contact arms b.step the contacts c.reset the saftey switch d.check for line voltage

    e. junk it and put in a cad cell control.

    Actually if the contacts get out of step and you put it in step but still have trouble keeping the burner cycling correctly, I would trash it and put in a new one.
    If it shuts off on safety even though its getting plenty of heat then clean the heat element. These things last about 10 years. After that they are a nuisance service call waiting to happen.
