It is clear to me that you do not pay much attention to politics or you would realize that the Senate is not a 50/50 + the Vice President majority rules group of folks. To overide a veto they have to have 60 votes. The Dems never had a fillibuster proof majority in the Senate. Some Dems/Indies joined with Repubs to filibuster many key bills that passed in the House. A few Republicans broke party rules and voted in favor of a the few bills that actually were passed in the Senate. Hundreds of bills never got a chance to recieve the Repubs vaunted up or down vote.

15 cents an hour in Malaysia is not like making $15 an hour here. The proposed raise would bring the average Malaysians standard of living up to what we would consider to be very poor in this country, but at least, according to the Malaysian government, would allow their citizens to have a standard of living that does not involve living in unsanitary conditions and not being able to buy sufficient food to keep their families fed.

George Soros? To much right wing propoganda I assume. All I know about Soros is he is a left leaning billionaire who is demonized by the right. I have never heard a darn thing he has said about anything.

Finally, Sam Walton, My Grandfather and Sam were very good friends. I lived in Bentonville, AR when Wal-Mart was born. I have been in Store #1 in Rogers, AR shopping with my mom. My dad did all of Sam's plumbing and HVACR work. I played tennis on his private court next to his Faye Jones designed house. Do I need to go on ad nausium? Trust me, as anti-union as Sam was, he was very good to his employees and believed the common worker should have a leg up. He made many secretaries, maintenance men, truck drivers, and warehouse workers millionaires. He shared the wealth the workers made for him. Remember his "buy American" program? Trust me, He is rolling in his grave right now.

The reason that the democrats can't get their agenda passed is because even though they have a Senate majority, not all of the Democrat senators will vote with the dems. In fact, the dems are not hampered by republicans, they are hampered by the lack of cohesiveness and agreement among their own ranks. So, when it comes time for cloture on important issues, they lose the fight. That loss is not so much because of short-lived attempts at a filibuster by republicans, but because not enough democrats agree with the bill or its riders.

Now, to further explain a couple of things.

Our "poor" are the wealthiest poor people on the planet, bar none. They drive cars, live in houses, and have flat screen TVs.

The poor of Malaysia are indeed "poor." In fact, Malaysians are a majority-poor nation. So, when you look at the average wage of Malaysia, that 15 cents is indeed analogous to $15.

Now, we can argue whether we, as a nation should be attempting to change the nature of poverty in foreign nations by paying more for goods and service than the free market demands. I would say "no," because those nations must advance their own agenda for education and economic production. We can advise them, and we do give that advice. We can plant seeds of prosperity, but it is up to the people of those nations, rich AND poor, to tend to their growth and success.

George Soros is a naturalized American citizen who made his money as a hedge fund manager that would make Gordon Greco cringe, so it is ironic indeed that Soros wants to change America to a socialist society. After all, this won't affect him, because Soros and his friends will still be de facto members of the ruling class here.

George Soros has funded most, if not all of the current left wing 527's and .orgs, including the Tides Foundation, who had spent the last six years writing the Obama healthcare bill. This is why none of the people in Congress knew what was in it. They just copied what had been written, and added a few paragraphs written by their legislative assistants.

Here is the "about" page for Soros' "Open Society" org. If you just scan this, it appears to be pretty innocuous, even laudable.

What most people miss is that these folks go into countries and apply their own definition of justice and fairness, definitions they just cooked up themselves, rather than being representative of a nation that has a track record of refining those definitions over time. They have never given up their citizens' blood to defend or to advance freedom, anywhere. Instead, they wish to create nations where their influence leads to a government that redistributes wealth from those who have earned it, to those who have not.

That's what terms like "fairness" and "social equality" mean to them. So, you do have to read between the lines. This is Utopian Socialism, plain and simple.

Ah, Sam. A good man to be sure.

I was friends with his chief pilot, Bob Lake.

I'm sure that Sam would be doing things a little differently than his successors, but I also think that one thing Sam excelled at was reading the tea leaves about what is happening in a current situation, and then extrapolating what would happen in the near and far term.

Perhaps Sam would argue against some things, but I also believe that Sam would agree with a surprising majority of how his family is reflecting his legacy, because as things have changed in America and around the world, Sam would certainly have changed with them.

I also think it is reasonable to believe that if Sam could not purchase his goods here, he would certainly be willing to purchase them elsewhere, because his customers would DEMAND those goods.
