I hope some of you charge for travel time and parts pick up.
Lots of em not that far away, a few miles or so, some certain distributors maybe 15 miles or so...thankfully.
Civilization does have it's good points.
Man I thought I had it bad here in Connecticut! We have 2 good supply houses in Groton that sell air conditioning parts. That's it. We cover all of southeastern connecticut, so if we are on the other side of the conty, we have to go all the way to groton to get something. It pisses me off. Every time I have to go out of the way like that I think back to the days when I lived in Kansas, when all of our work was in one town. If we needed something, we drove to the closest supply house, and if they didn't have it, we drove to the other one on the other side of town. I will never know why it can't be that way here.
A lot of times now if I need something and I'm on the other side of the county, I will just tell the customer that we have to order the part, we will be back in 1-2 days. Then I call the office, who calls the supply house, who delivers it to the shop, and then we go install it.
A lot faster when you have lots of work ahead of you than driving all over the place. The bad thing is, if the 2 supply houses in groton don't have what we need, we have to yet still order it from another supply house somewhere in an0other part of the state.
