    Question 410a leak detector

We had this argument at the shop before about using leak detector rated for r22 for r410a it shouldn't work but Im always over ruled. I say it shouldn't different oils but u guys give me your opinion. Also one for 134a i think would work on 410a. I would rather buy one to be sure than miss the leak

Why would oil type matter when looking for refrigerant leaks?

Now, a GOOD leak detector will detect CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs with no problem.

I have used the H-10 detector on all 3 types for many years with good success and I recommend it unconditionally.

Now, I have recently had some very positive experiences with the D-tek select that are starting to sway my opinion. Up until a few months ago, I would have told you that the Select was the biggest piece of crap that has ever been marketed as a leak detector, and I haven't been shy about saying so.

Somebody read some of those posts here (thanks, BTW) and helped me to get an updated and upgraded Select.

I must say that I am quite impressed with this detector and would recommend it as well.

    Talking Leak Detectors

I use the Bacharach Informant-2. It's a great detector, very reliable. Although I use it for R-134 and combustible gases (gasoline) it will detect most refrigerants. It may be useful to check for furnace leaks, possibly a few pro's might know. For my needs, it the best of both worlds. ibis1

I use the Tek-mate as a beat up detector, it detects 410, though it seems not as well as 22. If I don't find it with a quick scan I pull out the Bacharach H-10, that will usually find the leak, but if the leaks too small, it may take some time.
