Failing geo heatpump?
Hello,
I have a 6 year old Geothermal heatpump, with a closed circuit loop. It has worked well so far.
Recently, it has had 2 problems:
1. the pump starts when called for heat, runs about 10 mins, then shuts off, (called for temp not reached), then restarts after about 5 minutes.
2. The warm air is only about 10 deg warmer than the intake (intake 70, output 81), whereas when properly functioning it is about 92-93 .
Service person will be here early next week, but for my own knowledge any suggestions as to what this could be?
Thanks

Best not to speculate.
Since that can give a preconceived notion that it should be something other then the tech finds. And make you doubt the tech on site.

I'm sure your technician will recommend this system be serviced at least once a year by a trained technician, if he does not then find a service company who sells a good pre-paid annual or twice a year service agreement and stay with them. Geothermal is expensive equipment to replace and it's always far cheaper to keep it up than replace it.

My SWAG would be it's low on charge and shutting down on low pressure. But this is just a guess without being able to look at it.
