what was his reaction when you told him to take all those panels off and split those coils?

or did he know to do it?

only wish more "techs" knew to split the coils!

He took it in stride, and did a pretty good job. He had no idea, but is more than willing to learn.

Hats off to your boy!! I think it's great your boy wants to follow your footsteps.

I know owners think they need to hide their units because either they hate the site or to protect from intruders but IMO the units show class added to the building. No barrier Gives the coil more breathing room and easy access for us to trouble shoot and clean. I wish I could knock everyone of those fences down I come in contact with and not get any consiquences for it. sorry , just needed to get that off my chest.

Im assuming if your gonna recover the gas and split coils it cost more than a water hose...just asking since Ive never seen it done like that before, but it makes total since, but I know I couldnt afford to do it that way on a basic PM

No need to recover just split apart carefully and wash it out, you would be surprised how much crud is stuck between the coils even after going after the outside and inside with a hose.

the only time i have had to recover the gas is when he spliting the coils used a pocket knife to cut the wire ties apart and niked the coil bends. just pry apart carefully and hose down, and dont spend to much time trying to get the stuff in the corner that didnt split apart you just wasting time besides you got 95% the stuff anyway. u must be a proud dad. teach'm right the first time and be done with it... no redoes

    great start

now he will not hesitate to pop the lid off and see for himself .
i love it when the owner tells me i had my coils cleaned and the guy just sprayed the coil from the outside . love the look on their face when i foam out all the crud and show them it was over charged b/c some one doesnt fully
understand what it means to clean the coils.
