Unemployment; are people really this stupid?

An article on unemployment, because the government's way lowered number just went up to 9.6%, claims that even when jobs do open up, skilled workers will be needed but less skilled workers will have to work for less money...DUH!

Whenever companies start hiring freely again, job-seekers with specialized skills and education will have plenty of good opportunities. Others will face a choice: Take a job with low pay — or none at all.

Why in the world would people who have little skills expect to be paid as well as people who have committed themselves to learning skills?

This article makes sense to the millions of americans who not only expect equal opportunities, but equal outcomes. Sadly those millions are rapidly multiplying.

I think, sadly, many people equate "experience" with "skills". Not the same.

Expect lower wages too for unskilled, as supply/demand will drive down the need to pay unskilled people more. Unskilled people need to become familiar with the term "minimum wage". How many people do we get used to seeing who have no apparent skills of any sort in a "job" position that looks pretty cushy and may pay fairly well? Of course, they are competing with illegal aliens, so it only gets worse as we go.

Skilled workers are being bitten too, as the overall downturn in the economy is killing the demand for skilled labor.

As HVAC guys, I think we are pretty lucky as an industry when it comes to jobs. That is why I decided to get into this field, for jobs, back in the Jimmy Carter days that was very much like what we have with Obama. Massive unemployment and the economy in the toilet. Rinse and Repeat, it is basically the same thing. But HVAC is pretty resilient for retaining jobs for skilled workers.

I hear on the News that NObama has finally decided to "attack unemployment" and get people back to work?

his plan sounds suspiciously like FDR's plan from the 30's and 40's. NObama has decided to "rebuild roads" and upgrade the air traffic control system (which the FAA has been trying to do for 30 years)

Socialism is nothing but a tool for elitists rise high above and control the "equally" poor masses. So many of the masses wrongly think that they will become part of the elitist group in a Socialized nation when in fact only a few will become wealthy and powerful. About 100 years ago I worked at a plant in Blytheville Arkansas with a an old colored guy named Robert Earl.... he lived with his momma in a shack....but his momma would cook a meal of cornbread, soup beans and either gizzards and hearts or chicken wings....

It was some of the best food Ive ever eaten..... and those wings were not like what you get today with some sort of sauce all over them.... they were fried and seasoned with salt and pepper only......but they were a billion times better than that chemically infused stuff that passes as wings today.

Americans today should look at the way poor folks eat.... you can save a lot of money and eat really good if you know what you are doing....

I saw that article, 50 billion on roads/bridges/transport. That is probably money well spent, what they should be funding to begin with. But,.. didn't we just go through this sh!t to the tune of 700+billion? I thought that was all covered in the previous stimuli scheme?

I am guessing 50 billion is probably an inconsequential drop in the bucket anyway, as it pertains to unemployment.

And yes, actual unemployment is hard to measure. Some peg it anywhere from 13% to 20+%. The 9.6% measure is just the way they always do it. It is for reference, and fairly consistent as far as I can tell. I would be more concerned with the distribution of unemployment, such as certain cities where they are getting killed with unemployment while in North Dakota I think has unemployment running around 3%. I think some cities in the NE and california are getting clobbered really bad.

Obama is now asking for another 50 billion dollars to provide work in the area of infrastructure to stimulate the economy;

President Barack Obama is asking Congress to approve at least $50 billion in long-term investments in the nation's roads, railways and runways in a pre-election effort to show he's trying to stimulate the sputtering economy.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE 800 billion dollars he already got for the same exact reason???

Also, please note that all of this "stimulus" directly supports industries that are already heavily government subsidized and labor unionized. The trucking, railroad and airline industries are already a major burden on government spending and every one of them support the costly institution of labor unions.

I just love the governments bullcrap excuse for why this 50 billion dollars be used differently then the 800 billion dollars that was promised to do the same thing;

I'm really starting to take all of this personal now. Obama is directly attacking me and my way of life, so it is now very personal. I can now say that I actually do feel a disdain for Obama because he has shown over and over that he has a real disdain for me other then what I can do for him.

While there are many ways to "measure" real unemployment data, the facts are that the 9.6% that the government owns up to is not the full figure.
