    Turbo Air BGF-23

Just got new account with a ton of these **** boxes on the list for the this week. First call is no lights... replaced the door bulb with a new lamp and no light. Are these door lights thermostatically controlled? Nothing in the scematic shows this... just a lamp switch. getting voltage with a voltage stick but not sure what voltage or which pins to measure for readings. Lamp holders look good. Unable to locate parts and TA is no help. Had to acctually call TA for part #'s then (that took 2 days) then he gives me a # to a illinois distributor. Call him for truck stock 3 days ago and havn't heard back. Anyone have a source for TA parts? Thinking this box may have some type of t stat that only makes on lower temps to warn that temp is rising. Looks like I,m in for a long ride with these TA freezers. Anyone work with these boxes alot? I need a crash coarse on the nuances of these boxes. Thanks

    I HATE TURBO AIR

I called T.A. tech support over a month ago, they still have not called me back Just download whatever you can get from their website and read it. You might find this useful. Have fun.

Check the pigtail, the wire breaks inside them giving enough voltage for a wiggle stick to light, but not enough amperage for the bulb to light. Also, the wire does not always look broken as it breaks in the insulation.

They usually have a 90 degree plastic connector on the drain line, look for a clog there, or if its a freezer and the drain goes out the size they have a tiny whole in the drain tube that is supposed to let the water out, but, it gets clogged with stuff.

That's a good point. I need to pull the tombstones and have a closer look. Anyway of testing these by voltage. I do not know how to test by voltage readings.

Not by voltage, but by ohms, but you still have to get into the door, unplug the pigtail and check the ohms from the each prong to it connection point in the light.

You can offen tell by looking, when you look real close the cord will appear to have a waist.

This is exactly what I need Thanks. I will also incorporate ohming the wire back to the pins to eliminate the posibility of any breaks. If I can confirm that The wiring is good them I just need to confirm if the ballast is good which is where I have trouble determining. I will read over the material. It seems that every time I had a bad ballast it was open with no voltage on the output but I guess it is possible to get one that is weak and not putting enough voltage out to heat/light the bulb.

So two lamp ballast ? Old style ballast was 2 reds 2 blues 2 yellow . Reds & blues out & yellow for the jumpers. Ballast would typically be marked with a open circuit voltage which you would test between the red & blue leads and compare. Now the last one i changed was new style and you could not follow color code but by following the wiring diagram you can make the necessary changes.

They are tough to deal with @ TA. I've done three warranty calls for them since 2007. They call me, send a work order, bug the heck out of you until you get there, call the job, and talk to the owner-manager while you are there to make sure you have shown up, and then won't answer the phone, or call back when you try to contact Tech Support, or the warranty rep. Send all parts without question, and pretty much rely on you to make their systems run. Tried to purchase some out of warranty parts from them, and even tho I have done work for them in the past, if I need to purchase parts, I have to go thru a distributor. I use Case parts. After the last chinese (pun intended) fire drill with a freezer I repaired under warranty, I'm considering a divorce.
One way to outthink people is to make them think you think. They'll think you're not really thinking what you're trying to get them to think you think...........
