Should a condenser stop and the fan keep running?

My A/C is working great as far as the inside temp and humidity, but I noticed my fan on the air handler kept running and my condensing unit stopped. I have the stat on "auto" and have it set very low because I am dehumidifying my home for a couple of days and then will set it at a more normal temp. Point being, the unit hasn't hit the set temp yet. It has been running for less than 24 hours.

    Thanks

Setting the thermostat lower won't "dry out" your house like you think it will. The cooler the temp in the house is. The less moisture the A/C will remove.

No, something is wrong if the condensers fan keeps running without the compressor.

I think he meant the AH fan keep running.

    I think you rright.

In which case. The freeze stat is doing its job. And he has his stat set too low.

Thanks for all the replies. It was set on 68. That is very low for my liking. I had the installer come out and he turned the unit off and made some adjustments and seems to be working great now. The home was VERY hot and humid inside from the start and it didn't shut off throughout the night. Seems to be caught up now. We now set it to 72 and it is still pretty cool.

I don't understand. Why won't it be lower if the unit runs more? Uggh, this A/C stuff is confusing. Is there a book I can read to understand it better?

There is a pleathora of information available through all kinds of professional organizations, such as ACCA, SMNACA, ASHRAE, AHRI, RSES and some more, if you can stand the alphabet. But for answers, lowering the t-stat to some arbitrarily low number does not mean the equipment is sized to reach that number. For example, if the design temp (the normal high outdoor temperate and humidity level for the area) is 95F with a SHR of 70/30 and an indoor temperature of 74, then at 90F and the system might be able to maintain 69 (5-degrees below the 74 indoor design temperature) or even 68, where the outdoor unit is rejecting heat at 5-degrees below rated OAT. But when the OAT gets to be 95, the unit only have enough capacity to maintain 74, which are the design conditions. So setting the t-stat to anything below 74 is not going to change anything. It's doing all it can at 95 OAT and 74 IAT and the thermostat is now just a switch, just like an electric light switch. However, certain settings could change things a little. For example, the indoor fan speed may have been inappropriate or the cycles per hour may have been inappropriate. But point is, there was an adjustment that needed to be made and now the system is operating well according to the HO.
If YOU want change, YOU have to first change.

If you are waiting for the 'other guy' to change first, just remember, you're the 'other guy's' other guy. To continue to expect real change when you keep acting the same way as always, is folly. Won't happen. Real change will only happen when a majority of the people change the way they vote!

After a certain point. The colder it is in the house. The colder the coil has to be to remove the moisture from it.

The coil can only get so cold.

Excellent. I do understand the idea of the coil vs. temp in home. Condensation. Makes perfect sense. Thank you both for the information. The current outside temp is 86, but the humidity is like swimming. This is our first full day of a/c. We are so excited to have a home that the humidity is so low and it is so comfortable. Excellent.

It was interesting to see how this was worked on. He was checking the temp on the coil and what was coming out of the vents. Amazing how low those temps were!!

By the way now that we put the temp a little higher the humidity is even lower!

    Thanks again.
